A recent Google survey shows the importance of mobile in driving shopper behaviour today – at every stage in the customer journey. Pre-shopping: 58% of the sample use their mobile to locate stores, 57% check store hours and 44% browse retailers’ mobile sites. In-store: 84% of shoppers are using mobiles devices in-store. 62% access store websites, 50% access brand sites and 21% use store apps.

Each quarter, the IMRG partner with eDigitalResearch to ask 2,000 UK consumers how they use mobile devices. This useful tracking study shows how consumers purchasing cycle is changing, as they are researching heavily on their mobile platforms before they complete their purchases. Their latest mobile commerce usage report shows that smartphone ownership in the UK is now at 60% with a significant number using them for purchase: Over 54% of Smartphone Users  now browse products each month whilst 40% purchase. Compared to some developed countries, the UK has limited high-speed mobile connectivity. This has now changed. Well at least in 4 UK cities, that's London, Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham who now have access. Brand “EE”, which is now the the UK’s largest mobile network as owner of the Orange and T-Mobile brands, has made the country’s first 4G service live and is promising to roll it out to 16 cities before Christmas. The initial coverage will be for around 20 million people.
