23rd April update. We first alerted about this change to Twitter profiles on 10th April, when the rollout was promised "over the next few weeks". Well, a fortnight later and the rollout appears complete since this banner prompting users to update their profile has now been reported at the top of many profiles including ours.

Updated Twitter profileIf you take a look at the requirements for imagery, they are:

  • Brand ident (on left) of 400px by 400 px
  • Main pic of 1500px by 500px

Background and examples of the new Twitter profile

Over the next few weeks, Twitter will be making a big change to the layout of each profile page. These will be available straightaway for new Twitter users, but rolling out later for existing Twitter users. According to Twitter a sneak preview is available for some celeb accounts such as @zacefron and @FloydMayweather, but they didn't give examples of new business or company Twitter profile - we have listed some at the end of this post to check.

What can we expect to see in the new Twitter Profile?

  • 1. Large cover shot photo, similar to the Facebook style. It will be interesting to see what text promotion will be allowed since Facebook restricted that and then opened it up.
  • 2.  Best Tweets -  Tweets that have received more engagement will appear slightly larger, so your best content is easy to find.
  • 3. Pinned Tweet: Pin one of your Tweets to the top of your page, so it’s easy for your followers to see what you’re all about. As well as the feature to filter tweets by; Tweets with photos/videos, or Tweets and replies.

Check out these new Twitter page examples compiled by Digiday. Many examples show how posting pictures is essential for engagement on the new page designs.
